How to do a self-care routine.

Self-care, self-care, self-care we all have heard about this and it is only fair that the emphasis is laid down here as well.

It might be easy to some and difficult to others to start doing a self care routine in their lifestyle but hey, there is always a first time for everything.

But what is self-care?

This is when you care more about you, your welfare and put aside that of others for just a moment.

And the following are just some of the things you can do to start of the self-care regimen.

1. Skin care

This is the most obvious one and let me tell you this is good for the soul and heart. Once you start caring for your body, skin, you start feeling some type of positive vibes flowing in you.

How to get started.

  • For your body: Get some nice scented shower gel. It doesn’t have to be expensive, it should just work for your skin. Get some exfoliating gloves also. They really work on removing dirt that has overlayered itself on your skin throughout the day.
  • For your face: Get something that works well for your face as well. Depending with the seasons that is summer or winter.

I am aware of people with different types of face regimen during winter and during summer and just in case you are having a problem with your face regimen during season change be sure to look into this.

Not forgetting the magical pill for acne that most people swear by, spironolactone or aldactone. I will not get into this as much because it is not my field of expertise but be sure to ask your dermatologist if it’s safe to use.

Also, face masks at least twice a week is very good and particularly clay mask works wonders.

  • For your feet, home remedies are the best. Soak your feet in warm water mixed with 1/2 cup Baking soda and white vinegar. They  are a good combo in drawing off the dead skin off your feet. Just be sure to scrub off the dead skin while at it.

To smell good all day, spray 3 to 5 puffs straight into the shower and not forgetting the hair, spray some 5 to 7 puffs onto a towel or shirt and dry your hair with it.

Brush your hair, groom your nails, scrape your tongue, floss, brush your teeth twice a day are just among the common things to do for self-care.

2. Prepare your own meals.

In as much as it is to be tempted to have take-outs; it is best to have a home-cooked meal. This way, you know the elements used to make the food and you are able to track how you are eating.

Having take outs once in a while is not bad but it shouldn’t be a habit if you are looking into taking good care of yourself in general.

Make yourself a good breakfast always. It will push you through the day and make you feel satiated as the day goes by.

3. Read a good book.

Always have a good book to read.

Challenge yourself to finish at least one book a month. You will be filled with more knowledge and understanding on certain things. Your mind and perspective towards things will change for the better.

Have some fresh air while at it or stay in a cosy position with less distraction.

4. Workouts

If you are a beginner, start off with light workouts for a shorter period of time or better still follow the fitness guides which by the way some of them are free on youtube.

You will start to feel much better health-wise and also you will get to sleep better and wake up less moody.

If you are having a bad day, praying and working out will solve your day.

Start your day with prayer & exercising and the day will flow like never before.

5. Learn to unwind.

After a long hectic day at work its advisable to relax and just unwind.

Try to do it in a healthy way like having a bubble bath, having some green tea, watching a relaxing movie or even going for a light walk around the neighbourhood.

Instead of having strong drinks that will make you have a hangover the next morning.

  1. Preparing your own meals is one I struggle with. But it is so true the benefits it can bring. Not only is it healthier but it can be fun to make it exactly how you want!
