Forget the Gym! What I did to lose 30 pounds in just a few months

A little back story of my weight loss journey goes like this:

I have been a big girl for almost the majority of my childhood and as a teenager. I decided to lose weight when I got to University courtesy of my best friend in the year 2018.

I lost a ton of weight in a matter of 8 months. In the last moments of the year 2019 I gained it back and year 2020 I struggled to lose it again. I didn’t have much of a choice in 2020 but to work out at home with the equipment that was available.

So am here to share with you; Yes, you!  Who is looking for quick solutions to lose weight so that you can look fabulous in a snap!

First, you need to understand that you are beautiful. Nobody else is like you, because God created us differently with a purpose.

Second, love yourself the way you are, because it’s by loving and embracing yourself at the point that you’re right now that puts you in the right mindset of why you want to lose weight.

When you love your body and appreciate it, It begins to respond quickly to whatever forms of workouts or self-care you give to it.

Third: Ask yourself why you want to lose weight and is it for the right reasons?

After you have identified your reasons and goals, understand that there is no EASY way out. You want to lose weight you have to work for it. Hard work doesn’t go unrewarded and the scriptures back it up.

My current trainer(s) once told me that “don’t put pressure on losing the weight: one day you will just wake up, look at yourself in the mirror and realise that the weight is gone.”

So, let’s see how to incorporate losing weight without the GYM!.

1. Consistency.

You might have heard of the statement ‘ Consistency is key’ and what better way to put it than now.

If you want to see progress, there has to be some sort of consistency. Be determined to work out even when you don’t feel like. Pushing through the days you have set for yourself to work out and eating clean.

When tempted to eat off your MEAL PLAN remind yourself that you have been consistent all through; why change the eating pattern now?

At the end of the day, nobody is going to consistently remind you of your goals or why you shouldn’t quit or consistency is key. You have to be your cheerleader from day one with or without anyone’s support.

Consistency was one MAJOR key of this success.

2. Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting is a pattern of eating and is done for so many purposes including weight loss.

To achieve the results I got: (30 pounds down), I went on a 8hr eating window and 16hr fast. To understand what am driving at, I suggest you go through this IMPORTANT CHECKLIST of Intermittent fasting and how you can lose weight with Intermittent fasting FAST!

I ate 3 to 4 times during that 8hr window and to be honest I would mix in all types of food but it was in moderation. I would lean on clean eating and I cut out SUGAR.

3. Discipline

This character goes hand in hand with consistency. Discipline will drive you to be consistent and hence achieving your GOALS!

No matter how much you feel like quitting or feel like not doing what you need to do to get to your goals, be disciplined to do it anyway.

4. Calorie counting

GET STARTED on how to count your calories in the most simple way you could ever imagine. It will change your entire weight loss journey.

Counting calories was one among many things I did to keep it up a notch. Through out this period, I avoided sugar and sugary foods as well. So in essence I didn’t take sugar.

It doesn’t mean that if you consume sugar you will not lose weight but with the time frame that I had kept for myself to lose the weight, I had to cut it massively.

By counting your calories you get to determine what enters your body and by how much. You get to have control over what enters your body which is a good thing at this point.

5. Portion control

Portion control is in conjunction with CALORIE COUNTING. It’s important to portion control so that you can be aware of how many calories you are indulging in.

6.Social media detox

One thing I realised on SOCIAL MEDIA is that there are a lot of unreal expectations of losing weight.

We have influencers who show us the dream body that we so much crave for,and yet some of these individuals go as far as posing themselves in angles that would flatter their body in order to sell their product.

Don’t get me wrong, but in my own perspective, seeing this only got me to a place where I wanted to work tirelessly day and night to reach where they”are”, which is unrealistic.

I was constantly comparing myself with them at a point where it got me sick ish, mentally. The only way out was to get off the feed and eventually off social media.

So far this has been the BEST decision for my weight loss journey.

7. Body detox

Before starting on a weight loss journey, I would advice that you jump on a detox challenge.

Detox can be as simple as taking lime water every morning to drinking supplements and teas for detox purposes.

8. Water.

In terms of liquids, I drank a Gallon of water, and sometimes 3 litres of water especially just before noon time. It helps with getting rid of toxins.

9. Spiritual meditation

Another way to tackle weight loss in a chilled way is to put it in prayers. You can ask God to give you the strength to work out and the energy to be effective as you work out.

10. Home workouts

Working out was a plus. About 20 to 60 mins per day. Depending on the day and the work out assigned for that day.

In early March 2020 I started to follow a work out challenge that runs for 365 days and if you would like to be part of it, it’s on YouTube for FREE!

11. Taking the stairs

You want to put in as much work out as possible by doing the simple things such as taking the stairs or taking a walk instead of a taxi.

12. Use of public transport

As unusual as this may sound, public transport can help you move around since you would need to get to a bus stop or bust station or even the train station to access the vehicles hence having an active day.

13. Keeping active majority of the time

With most of us working from home, we are bound to be stationery and stuck to our computers in the better part of the day.

What you can do is stand up for some few minutes. Walk around in the house for 15 minutes per 1hr interval or do the house chores. It will burn calories in a good amount.

14. Dancing in the house

Did you know that by just dancing for an hour, you can make up to 10,000 steps?

YouTube has got such challenges and if you give yourself an hour you get to make 10,000 steps a day.

15. Brisk walks

By taking brisk walks around the neighbourhood keeps your mentally and physically in check. So next time you are chanced, take 30 mins to walk to get in the activity for the day.

16. Superfoods

During this period I took superfoods. Superfoods are foods rich in antioxidants.

I played around with Moringa green powder, Moringa seeds, chia seeds, beans, Greek yoghurt and flax seeds.

17. Keto diet

The Ketogenic diet helps you lose weight faster due to the fact that while in the diet your body runs into ketosis hence burning more fat.

18. High protein diet

A high protein diet is essential for weight loss and building muscle. Depending on weight loss a good amount of protein is essential but not too much of it.

19. Motivation pictures

Taking pictures instead of weigh-in brings in more impact on your motivation. You get to see changes and get motivated on the go to move to the next level of your fitness journey.

20. Affirmations

Affirmations are the pathway to manifestation. If you say negative words towards your body and yourself your results will not be tangible as expected. But if you love your body and affirm positive words of love, you will surely see results that you expect, manifest speedily.

21 Know your body type

Before starting on a meal plan or work out, know your body shape. It is important so that you understand what your body requires in terms of meals & workouts.

FINAL ADVICE!!

Do not listen to negative advice from people. You do you. Because once you start doing what someone else is doing, it may not work for you.

What’s in for 2021 weight loss journey?

For the year 2021, by God’s will, something is cooking. I have put together a few enhancers for my weight loss journey and I can’t wait to share with you once the year is about to round up.
